I started fossil hunting as an amateur in 1984 when I moved to Alberta, Canada to start my professional life as a petroleum geologist.  With my background in geology and my previous experience at rockhunting in the Eastern Provinces of Canada, it was only common sense that drove me towards fossil hunting.

In 1992 I was hired by a private firm in order to conduct a Geological Assessment of ammonite deposits on the Blood Indian Reserve No. 148 in Southern Alberta.  It is then that I decided to write the "Macrofossil Localities of  Alberta", which was later updated in 2000 (downloadable on this site).  My ammonite assessing contract lead to another one which involved exploring all over Colombia and South America for minerals and fossil specimens (such as whales, fishes, ammonites and petrified woods) to sell to museum and private collectors worldwide.

Later, my career took me to Africa where I continued exploring on my own for local fossil attractions and also wrote the libyan fossil publication which I make available for download on this site.  In another twist to my career, I was hired in 2007 by Qatar Petroleum as an Oil & Gas Data Management Specialist.  Seeing the need for a Guide on the fossils of Qatar, I then wrote the Qatar document which is available to download here.

Hoping that you will enjoy this website and all the documents and pictures it contains.  Wishing you the best of luck during your fossil hunting season.
